What is Kybella?
Kybella™ (deoxycholic acid) injection is the first and only FDA-approved prescription nonsurgical treatment that is used in adults to improve the appearance and profile of moderate to severe fat below the chin (submental fat), also called “double chin.”

How does it work?
The active ingredient in Kybella™ is deoxycholic acid, a naturally-occurring substance in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. When injected into the fat beneath the chin, Kybella™ causes the destruction of fat cells. Once destroyed, the cells cannot store or accumulate fat, so patients lose their double chin and enjoy a slimmer and more contoured jawline.

What causes submental fullness (double chin)?
Submental fullness is a very common condition that affects both men and women and is caused by genetics or weight gain and aging. Submental fullness is generally resistant to diet and exercise, making it especially difficult for patients to remedy on their own.

How is Kybella administered?
Kybella™ is administered by injections into the fat cells under the chin, customized to the desired treatment goals of the patient. Each in-office treatment session takes approximately 15-20 minutes.

How many treatments are necessary?
Patients typically notice improvement within 2-4 treatments. The benefits are permanent, and for many patients, they create a dramatic and important change in their appearance.

Are there any side effects?
Side effects may include mild numbness, bruising, and tenderness for 2-3 days after treatment. Patients are able to leave the office without a bandage, and no recovery time is required after treatment.
